Certain ceremonies, such as crossing the fire (that is walking on burning fire) at the time of festivals, were followed to help the people to grow in faith. Prior to that, people used to fast for several days to prepare themselves for the same. It was generally done as an offering and also to fulfill their prayers. At noon people used to pray in the church to relieve themselves from their sickness. One of our greatest achievements is to teach Catechism for 1220 students in the parish. Besides contributing spiritual and moral growth among adults we import social awareness also. Then the person in charge of the church gave them water mixed with tamarind and some kinds of leaves. It is believed that by drinking that water people were relived of their sickness.
The parish of Poothurai is divided into 36 units of BCC groups. Each sister has to adopt 3 units and prepare the people to take part actively in liturgical and other spiritual activities. We animate the unit people to involve in spiritual activities like, Eucharistic adoration, preparation for receiving sacraments, decoration of the Church and the Altar.Sisters are working in different fields such as Education, BCC, KCYM, Catechism, TSSS, First Common Preparation, and Matha Sabai. Our work does not stop with the spiritual related activities. We are committed to uplift the living standard of these people in all spheres of life. We are at their reuse at anytime of crisis in their lives.
